Aug. 6 � Diminutive actor Joshua Ryan Evans, who played Timmy the living doll on the NBC-TV soap Passions, died unexpectedly during a medical procedure, the network said today. He was 20. Evans died at an undisclosed San Diego hospital on Monday while undergoing a medical procedure, NBC publicist Lauren Townsend said. The cause of death wasn't immediately known and the type of medical procedure wasn't disclosed. "He was in for evaluation for another procedure and he didn't survive," Townsend said. Rare Disease Stunted Evan's Growth The 3-foot-2 actor was born with a rare disease that prevented his body from growing. On Monday's episode of Passions, taped last month, the Evans character Timmy died. On the show, Timmy is a doll created by Harmony's resident witch Tabitha Lenox. He was recently turned into a real boy. The Timmy role won Evans two consecutive Soap Opera Digest Awards for outstanding male scene stealer. Born in Hayward on Jan. 10, 1982, Evans was 12 when he got national exposure in a Dreyer's Ice Cream commercial titled "The Dancing Baby," which won a top commercial Cleo Award. It resulted in a role in the movie Baby Geniuses. His television credits included Ally McBeal, which featured him as young attorney Oren, arch nemesis of Calista Flockhart's character. He was also featured as Tom Thumb in the A&E miniseries P.T. Barnum and Showtime's Poltergeist: The Legacy. His movie roles included The Grinch, in which Evans played the young Grinch.
